Why are assessments carried out?
There are several important reasons for both customer and supplier:
Quality assurance
Assessments help to evaluate and ensure the quality and maturity of development processes in the automotive industry. This is particularly important in view of the increasing complexity of vehicle software and systems.
Risk minimization
By evaluating and improving processes, potential risks in development can be identified and minimized at an early stage.
Competitive advantage
Successful Automotive SPICE® (ASPICE®) certification can provide a competitive advantage, as many automotive manufacturers require this from their suppliers
Process optimization
Assessments reveal weaknesses in the development processes and offer the opportunity for targeted improvement.
Standardization

Procedure of an Automotive SPICE® Assessment
The interview phase of a typical ASPICE® assessment, which is relevant for the client, usually lasts between 4 and 6 days. For more complex assessments that cover several business units, locations or organizational units, the duration can be longer. In any case, careful planning and preparation is important in order to optimize the effort for everyone involved and to achieve meaningful results. The exact duration depends on various factors:
Scope of the assessment, the processes to be checked and capability level
Size and complexity of the organization/project to be examined
Experience of the assessment team
Availability of documents and interview partners
Phases of the assessment process
1. Preparation and planning
Even if this phase does not always take place on site, it is still time-consuming. It includes:
- Determining the scope of the assessment and the processes to be assessed
- Detailed planning of the process
- Review and analysis of the documents provided
- Preparation of the assessment report and questionnaires
The preparation phase can take several days to weeks, depending on the size and complexity of the company or project to be evaluated. A kick-off meeting to get to know each other can be helpful.
2. Implementation on site
The duration of this phase is typically 4-6 days, but can be longer depending on the scope of the assessment. It includes:
-
- Interviews and workshops with key personnel from various departments
-
- In-depth analysis of processes and their practical implementation
-
- Document analysis and evaluation
-
- Evaluation and consolidation of the results – usually between the interview sessions
-
- Final presentation with presentation of the results and discussion of strengths and potential for improvement
3. Assessment report
As a result of our joint work, we hand over a detailed assessment report at the end. It contains
- Detailed written documentation of the results
- Specific recommendations for action to improve processes
After completion of the assessment, the services provided by the assessors and the processes evaluated are documented in an assessment log. The results of the assessment will not be passed on to the VDA, intacs® or any other institution, but only to the client / sponsor.
What happens next?
Once the assessment has been completed, we will be happy to continue helping you:
Creation of an improvement plan
- A concrete action plan is developed based on the recommendations.
- This defines which processes are to be improved, how and by when.
Implementation of the improvement measures
- The planned measures are implemented systematically.
- This can include process adjustments, training or changes in working methods.
- A team of developers can provide support with engineering services.
Continuous monitoring and adjustment
- Progress in implementing the improvement measures is reviewed regularly.
- Adjustments will be made if necessary.
